Having a magical (or just spiritual practice!) that resonates with you and that you can follow consistently is how you grow and become your most fulfilled self. But I know that life gets busy and we can lose our way in the hustle of every day chaos.
I have chronic illnesses and I am a neurodivergent person. There were many years I wanted to start my magical practice but could not keep up with the demands of life, my mental health, and my ailing body. I’ve finally found a magic routine that works for me and my hectic life. However, I know there are others that may need some ideas to get on (or back on) track with their magic practice. So here are seven ways to incorporate magic practice into your busy life!
Meditation

I cannot stress the importance of meditation if you would like to develop your magical practice. Even if you are simply developing a spiritual practice, meditation can help you in so many ways.
Not only will you be able to manage your focus better, but it can help you develop your visualization. Maintaining your focus is important during most rituals or spell work. And because magic is a skill that needs to be practiced, it’s imperative that you have basic skills doing like focus or visualization.
I was very hesitant to start meditating as I felt that someone, like myself, with ADHD will have immense trouble focusing while meditating. However the more I practice meditation, I find it easier to focus during my sessions.
It’s important to note that many people feel that they may be “doing meditation bad” because thoughts are still coming to them during their practice. But that doesn’t mean you are doing anything bad! During meditation, if you have a thought you can acknowledge it, then let it go. That’s the kind of the point of meditation.
I would also like to add that meditation is not a one size fits all practice! You don’t need to sit rod straight, for 30 minutes, repeating a chant. While that is helpful for some people, that is not the only way to begin your practice. There are many ways one can meditate and finding what works for you is what matters for your personal growth.
Grounding
In magical terms, grounding is the act of centering and connecting yourself to the earth, spirits, etc and dispel any energies that may get in the way of your work. This act is usually done right before or after a ritual or spell work to clear the space of unnecessary energy, to set intentions, or to close the ritual space.
Grounding is a practice you can incorporate into your every day life at any time of the day, not just before a ritual. When you are at work and just dealt with an irate customer, when the kids are running around asking for dinner, when you’ve just gotten some news at the doctor. Anytime you need to recenter your emotions or energy, you can try grounding.
Practice Gratitude

Every day we are on this Earth, should be treated with gratitude. Millions and billions of atoms were sorted through and brought together to create you in this current world. If that isn’t a magical occurrence in every day life, I don’t know what is.
Even during busy days, I do my best to practice gratitude. I thank my ancestors, my house spirits, and any beings I am working with at that time. I give thanks for the job that I have that gives me health insurance, for the my cat who is still my companion after 14 years of live, and for my access to clean water and an abundance of food. I am quite aware how privileged I am to have been born not only in a developed nation, but also into a family who love and support me.
I believe practicing gratitude is an important part of any spiritual practice because you are directly thanking and acknowledging the higher powers that have given you life.
Nature
Intentionally experiencing nature doesn’t have to mean camping at some remote site with no cell phone reception and only a compass to rely on for directions. It could mean taking 5 minutes in the morning to sit on your patio and watch the squirrels play in trees. Or before you drive off to work, watch a trail of ants laboring together for their little community.
This practice connects us to the world that we take for granted. With magic, we use elements of nature in order to channel our craft. In a non-magical spiritual practice, observing and honoring nature is another way to connect to any higher power. We appreciate and honor nature by connecting (and conserving) it’s beauty.
Create

Magic is about transformation, about creating something from another. Having a hobby that is focused on making, building, or growing is all apart of magical practice! Being creative is one of those aspects of life that can’t be taken away; our creativity is always within us.
If you don’t already have a creative hobby, the benefits to having one is endless. But specifically creating with a hobby is important in magical practice because it can help you develop your intuition. Magic is about trusting yourself and your actions, and when you create something new, that is actually what you are doing. The best thing about practice is that there are so many creative hobbies to choose from if you’d like to create!
Journal
Not only is journaling a wonderful way of creating and self expression but it is also a great way to practice magic in your every day life. Journaling is a way to reflect upon your own thoughts and grow from them. It’s a simple practice that can take as little or as much time as you need!
I believe that in order for our magical practice to be effective, we must know our deepest, truest self. If can’t understand ourselves, how can we work with and understand the energy and spirits around us?
I must admit, as I write this post, I am not someone who journals. But I want to be because I believe everything that I’ve written above! Journaling truly is a way to understand ourselves on a deeper level and can then boost our magical ability.
Music
Listening, singing, and dancing to music is something that cultures have participated in for centuries. As part of a spiritual practice, music is an easy way to connect to different energies and change our mood. It’s been shown time and again that experiencing music can improve our mental and physical health!
Who hasn’t been in a terrible mood and then your favorite song comes on the radio and everything feels a little better? That’s magic, babe.
Conclusion
We live in a busy world. There are an endless list of chores, errands, and responsibilities to take care of, not included the full-time labor most of us put in every week. So I understand it can be easy to let our magical or spiritual practice be neglected.
This reasonable list of activities to include in your daily life may only take a few minutes out of your day but can help you stay consistent and increase your magical abilities.
